Girard?Anthony S. "Tony" Kmiecik, 67, of Girard passed away at 5:30 P.M. Sunday July 6, 2008 at his residence.
Tony was born April 30, 1941 in Chicago, IL the son of Stanley J. & Antoinette (Argasinski) Kmiecik. In 1945 the family moved from the old "Cragin" north side Polish neighborhood to the suburb of Elmwood Park. He attended St. Celestine Grammar School and Elmwood Park high School graduating in 1959. As an Air Cadet, Tony had thoughts of joining the Air Force but he married young.
Tony worked at Automatic Electric for about 10 years and owned a bar, Tony K's, on the Circle in Elmwood Park. In 1976 he joined Duo-Fast Corporation in Franklin Park, eventually running the tool crib, which supplied perishable tools to various departments in the factory, and also setting up their computerized inventory control. He remained at Duo-Fast until early retirement in July 1997. Tony was a member of the company bowling and golf league where he met Linda Lightholder. They were married Nov. 13, 1982 in Franklin Park, IL. Tony continued in the company golf league enjoying the sport that he learned as a skinny 14 year-old caddy at Oak Park Country Club in River Forest.
Tony and Linda moved to Girard on Aug. 1, 1997. He played golf at Oak Leaf Country Club on Tues., Thurs. and Sat. mornings with Fred Adamski, Bud Dodge and Dan Rappe and later Bob Lechner joined the foursome. Tony had two holes-in-one about a month apart several years ago at Oak Leaf. Tony also played at Terry Park and when possible at Edgewood, Raymond or Staunton or other courses they'd heard about. Tony was quick ?witted, loved to joke and was an avid crossworder.
Tony is survived by his wife, Linda, son; Michael (Cheryl) Kmiecik of Belvidere, IL, daughters; Christine (Mark) Bock of Shamburg, IL, Janet (companion, Katie Heffner) Kmiecik of Park City, IL, sister; Alice (Michael) Iselin of Burlington, WI, 2 grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, 1 niece, 1 nephew, many cousins and numerous friends in this area and in Northern Illinois.
Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. with the service starting at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday July 12, 2008 at the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home in Virden, IL. Memorials may be made to the Girard Community Center Projector or Adopt-A-Pet no kill shelter in Benld, IL. Cremation rites will be accorded and private interment of ashes will be at a later date.
