He loved his family and all the times they shared together. After more than 50 years in the profession, he retired on June 6, 2006 parking his CH MACK for the last time! After logging a "few" million miles, he freely enjoyed the next 12 years of retirement.
He was a well-liked friend to many and never met a stranger. He loved auctions, estate sales and flea markets. Among his collectables were MACK only semis, Ford vehicles and any Wheel Horse designed mowers.
His work and life ethic were purposeful, his two-do list unending and this served and suited him well! He generously gave of his time and talents to family, friends, and neighbors when asked, asking nothing in return. He found much joy in nature and wildlife too.
He was a 1958 graduate of Woodstock High School. While there he was active in FFA and worked a stint for Farm Bureau. He was a member of the Teamsters, OOIDA 20+ years, AARP, and the Strasburg Moose Lodge 403 for 50 years. He also owned and operated the former Valley Diner for many years.
Besides being preceded in death by his parents; he was preceded in death by a brother, Frank, Sr., sister Fay, half-sister Charlotte Riffey, and first-born grandchild Cayla Devers (three days old), brother-in-law Bill Mumaw and niece Cynthia Burner.
Teddy was a loving, faithful husband to his wife and best friend of 35 years, Janie. He is also survived by the following children, Teddy L. (Skeeter) Shillingburg, Jr. (Treva), Tina L. Devers (Clark), Terry L. Shillingburg (Donna) and Teresa L. Shillingburg (fiance Dave Sinclair).
He leaves his precious grandchildren, Terry Lee Shillingburg, Shanna L. Devers, Karly M. Colcombe, Kaden M. Colcombe, two step grandsons, C.L. George (Lupeta), John George and three step-great granddaughters. He is also survived by sisters Doris Magette (Kendrick), Dorothy Racey (Paul) cherished sister-in-law Melissa Mumaw, five nephews, one niece, great nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
Flowers will be accepted but please consider a donation to our favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Toms Brook Vol. Fire Department, or a charity of one's choice.
Pallbearers will be Tip Pangle, Terry Hockman, Ducky Vaughn, Curtis Hertzel, Larry Cook, Clay Cook and Ford Dysart.
From 2 Timothy 4:7, I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Well done good and faithful servant.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His family is most appreciative and grateful for all the caregivers associated with Kindred Hospice and Consulate Health Care for every kindness and dedication.
