Berkes Berniece D, 90, died at 2:10 p.m. Monday in Parkview Hospital. She was born Feb. 22, 1906 in York Twp, Noble County to James L. and Maude E. (Mumma) Smith. On Aug. 8, 1925, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church parsonage, Avilla, she married Robert A. Berkes, who died May 17, 1978. She retired from Central Noble School Corp. as a cafeteria worker and was a lifetime Noble County resident. She was a member of the Solo Club, Noble County Council on Aging and the York Twp Home Economics Club. Surviving are two daughters, Gwen Tipton and Becky Barr, both Kendallville; two sons, Robert of Gordonville, Texas, and Howard of Albion; 14 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. + 11-18-1996
