Frances Ellen "Fannie" Carothers was the daughter of Samuel Matlick (1811-1888) who was born in Pennsylvania and died in Clark County, Missouri; and Mary Polly (Guseman) Matlick (1817-1909), who was born in West Virginia and died in Clark County, Missouri
On October 22, 1874, Fannie married John Martin Mumma (1851- ) who was a school teacher, and in the 1890s an instructor of business at the Kirksville Mercantile College. They had two known children:
Lee Raymond Mumma 1876 ? 1965
Maxwell Everett Mumma 1879 ? 1967
John Martin Mumma died in 1903 and is buried in Lewis County, Missouri.
In 1907, Fannie married John Calvin Carothers, widower of Mary Elizabeth (Parcells) Carothers who died in 1904. Mr. Carothers was a board member and secretary of the Kirksville Mercantile College in the 1890.
Fannie and John are listed in the 1910 and 1920 census of Kirksville, Adair County, Missouri. John Carothers died in 1929.
In the 1930 census, Fannie was living in Redwood, Santa Clara, California with her son Maxwell Mumma and his family.
Fannie died in Ohio in 1938 and is buried in Kirksville, Missouri in the Parcells/Carothers family plot at Forrest-Llewellyn Cemetery, along with John Carothers and his first wife, Mary, and Mary's parents and other relatives.
