Althought this family used the MUMMA spelling of their surname after arriving in Amerca, it is almost certain that the correct spelling was MUMME. The Mumme families primarily resided in Northern Germany

[Note. Albert is very hard to track. He was born Jan. 1, 1848 and died Nov. 15, 1915. His death certificate contains little information. He is buried in the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in Colebrook, Lebanon Co.. I am confident he too is a MUMME and is related to Henry and Christiana]
Henry Mumma filed a "Declaration of Intention" with the Lancaster County Courts on August 20, 1851 stating that he was from Germany and he renounced his allegiance to the "Duke of Brownschwick". The would have been the clerks interpretation of the town/region called, Brunswick. The earliest that Henry could have filed this document was 3 years after his arrival in Pennsylvania, so the earliest the family arrived would have been about 1840 (doesn't appear in the 1840 census) and 1847, the earliest year that he could have filed for citizenship. Of interest, he signed his name on the document as "Henrich Mumme". The area of Brunswick if where many Mumme families originated and I am certain the Henry's correct surname was MUMME.
