(As told to Linda Wilson-Albright by Harold Mumma)
For reasons I cannot or couldn't ever explain I could never get my parents to tell me the derivation of our name. My mother would give me some flippant answer when asked that we were Mongolians or something. Of course I repeated that when some kids parents asked me simply because I believed mother. My dad would say we were Dutchmen which I interpreted as Dutch. That seemed nearer the truth but then, another time, he would say we were Pennsylvania Dutch which is the same as saying German. Go figure, The information I have gathered over the years and in the course of my travels is that the name is likely more toward the German side with some Italian mixed in as the Mumma's migrated from Germany to Holland and down through Italy over several years.
