His obituary reads:
Donald A. "Abee" Brown, 77, of Glendale Boulevard, Coalport, formerly of Snow Shoe,
died March 13, 2003, at Bon Secours Holy Family Hospital, in Altoona. Born on Nov. 19,
1925, in Burnt Cabins, he was a son of the late Merrill and Irene (Mumma) Brown. On
June 28, 1952, he married Florence Mason, in Hagerstown, Md., who survives. He was a
veteran of World War II. He worked as a drag line operator for Rock Hill and River Hill
Coal Companies for 41 years and retired in 1990. He enjoyed fishing and hunting,
especially turkey hunting and camping. He was a former member of the Burnt Cabins
United Methodist Church. He attended the Fiske United Methodist Church, in
Fallentimber.
He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons of Orbisonia and the American
Legion Post of Orbisonia. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Evelyn
Barr, of Hagerstown, Md.; one son, Leroy B. Fletcher and his wife, Sue Derr, of
Martinsburg, W.Va.; one brother, Warren Cook and his wife, Bernice, of Mechanicsburg;
two nephews, Craig and Dirk Brown, of Mechanicsburg; 11grandchildren; 27
great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several great-nephews; and a
great-niece.He was preceded in death by a stepson, George Edward Mills; a
great-grandson, Joel Elsworth Barr; and a son-in-law, Jack Barr.Friends will be received
from noon until the time of the funeral service
at 2 p.m. Sunday, at the Gibbons Funeral Home, Main Street, Coalport, with the Rev.
David Heckman and the Rev. Joseph Short officiating.
Interment will be at Askey Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the
American Cancer Society or the American Red Cross, in his memory. Arrangements are
under the direction of Gibbons Funeral Home, Main Street, Coalport.
