Carol Roberta Mumma
DECATUR - Carol Roberta Mumma, 66, of Newburgh, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2008 from complications of multiple sclerosis at Cypress Grove Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Chicago, Illinois, the oldest of four daughters of Philip and Margaret Farkas.
She attended school in Evanston, Illinois and graduated from Millikin University, Decatur, Illinois. At Millikin, she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha social sorority.
She was diagnosed with MS in 1973 and spent most of her adult years in a wheelchair. Carol served on the board of directors and executive committee of the Easter Seals Rehabilitation of Southwestern Indiana in Evansville. She was the poster adult for the Easter Seals Telethon in 1989.
She leaves behind husband, Steve; daughters, Lisa Peters of Greenwood, Indiana and Laura Stroud of Chandler; son, Eric of Indianapolis; six grandchildren; and sisters, Lynn Weddle and Margaret Radke of Bloomington, Indiana and Jean Van Minnen of Portland, Oregon.
Carol was loved and admired by all who called her friend largely for her strength of character and for living her philosophy, "These are the cards I've been dealt. The positive way in which I choose to play them will determine the quality of my life." No funeral service was desired, but a memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel.
