NEWBURG -- Hughie D. Laughlin, 81, of 37 Turnpike Road, died at 5:25 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2003, in Chambersburg Hospital. Born Nov. 15, 1921, in Hopewell Township, he was a son of the late Harold and Reka Mumma Laughlin. Mr. Laughlin was a member of Newburg First Church of God. He retired from Mechanicsburg Naval Depot in 1981. During his life he also worked at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg and as a carpenter with his late brother, Arthur. Mr. Laughlin was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. A life member of Newburg-Hopewell Volunteer Fire Company, Newburg Fire Police and Vigilant Hose Company, he was a member of Orrstown Lodge No. 262 Free and Accepted Masons, where he was worshipful Master in 1970. He was also a member of Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post 223, Valley Forest No. 145 Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Shippensburg Scottish Rite Club and Harrisburg Consistory. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy M. Dunlap Laughlin, whom he married on June 7, 1941; three sons, Richard H. (husband of Rachel), Lee H. (husband of Jeanetta) and Daniel G. (husband of Barb), all of Newburg; a daughter, Janice M. (Mrs. Wilbur) Chamberlin of Shippensburg; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter. Funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. K. Hull Byers will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg. Viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with a Masonic service conducted by Orrstown Lodge No. 262 Free and Accepted Masons at 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: Newburg First Church of God, 260 Newburg Road, Newburg 17240 or Newburg Hopewell Volunteer Fire Company Fire Police, P.O.
