"GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Word has been received of the death of Kay Brant Bumgarner, 70, of 243 Carolina Ave., on Oct. 7, 2003, in Greenville Hospital. Born Oct. 10, 1932, in Fulton County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Sarah Mumma and Merrill Brant. She was a member of Laurel Baptist Church, Greenville, where she sang in the choir until her health failed. A graduate of the former Hustontown (Pa.) High School, she completed business college in Chambersburg. She was a secretary for the farm agent in Franklin County, Pa., and retired as president of Charlie's BBQ Inc., Greenville. She and her husband, Sgt. Oliver Charles Bumgarner, lived in California, South Carolina, Georgia, Guam and North Dakota. Besides her husband of 49 years, surviving are two sons, Charles D. of Matthews, N.C., and Gregory M. of Pelzer; four grandsons; and a brother, Clark M. Brant of Hustontown. Service was Oct. 10 in the Downtown Chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Greenville, S.C.. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Greenville. Memorial contributions may be made to Laurel Baptist Church, 2331 Laurens Road, Greenville 29607."
