STAUNTON - Marvin Wilson Moomau, 82, husband of Mary Lee (Johnson) Moomau, of 215 Lake Ave., died at 1:15 p.m. Monday (Nov. 15, 1999) in the Oak Hill Center.
He was born on April 29, 1917 at Greenville, a son of Rueben and Bessie (Boyd) Moomau. He graduated from Greenville High School.
He served in the Army with the 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Division, and landed at Omaha Beach. He was active in the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of Saint Lo. He then served with the Air Force before retiring. Following his military duty, he was employed by Valley Vocational Technical Training Center.
He was a member of Greenville United Methodist Church.
In addition to his widow, survivors include a number of nieces and nephews.
He was the last survivor of his immediate family as he was preceded in death by four brothers, Harry, Fred, Ralph and Guy Moomau and four sisters, May, Blanche, Ruth and Grace.
A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 18, 1999) in the Greenville United Methodist Church by the Revs. Dave Boger and Harley Bender. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Bucky Miller, Lionel Moomau, Alvin Moomau, Robert Campbell, R.M. Moomau Jr., Ron Shifflett, Ricky Moomau and Marty Miller.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Bowman, Bob Lynch, Rocky Moomau, Kevin Miller, Ned Campbell, Dennis Evans, D. Mellon, Danny Hite, Bob Shifflett, Darryl Oliver and Ronnie Chandler.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 17, 1999) in the Henry Funeral Home.
