Marjorie Jean Mumma, 81 died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009 at St. Joseph Medical Center. Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, March 2nd at Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka, KS. Ms. Mumma was a free lance fashion artist, and her drawings frequently appeared in the Kansas City Star and on the covers of The Independent Magazine. She was born May 14, 1927 in Topeka, KS to Kenneth and Pauline Kirkpatrick. She attended Washburn University and studied at the University of Kansas and the Kansas City Art Institute. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta; Greater Kansas City Art Association; National League of American Pen Women; and a docent at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. She is survived by her husband, Salmon B. Mumma, her daughters Lindsay Kay Woodruff, Austin, TX and Polly A. Porterfield, KC,MO; her stepsons; John Mumma, KC, MO and Paul Mumma and his wife Lea, Parkville, MO; sister Mary Lee Maxwell, Medford, OR; her niece Martha McComas, Medford, OR; and 4 step grandchildren.
