Elizabeth J. Griswold
Elizabeth J. "Betty" Griswold, 85, of Lititz, passed away surrounded by her family on December 27, 2008, at Luther Acres. Born in Rothsville, she was the daughter of the late Jacob & Mabel Hallacher Mumma. She was the wife of the late Arthur S. Griswold, M.D. who died in 1986.
Betty was a graduate of Rothsville High School, attended Elizabethtown College, and met her husband while serving in the United States Navy during World War II.
She was a dedicated and active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Lititz where she played in the Bell Choir, was a member of the ABCD's of Lititz, the Red Hat Society, Lititz Chapter #499 Order of the Eastern Star, active member of the United Auxiliaries of LGH, former Judge of Elections in Lititz Borough, and a charter member of the Lititz Historical Foundation and of Woodridge Swim Club. Betty enjoyed gardening, was an excellent cook, loved to sew, knit, play golf, and particularly cherished vacation trips with her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Diane G., wife of William H. Palmer, Lancaster; Sally A. Young, Manheim; Rebecca S., wife of Kenneth G. Reidenbach, II, Lititz; son, Thomas H. Griswold, Hendersonville, NC; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Andrew Reidenbach; Alex Palmer, Steven and Molly Young; sister, Annette M.,wife of Robert F. Nation, Hershey; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was a brother, Robert Mumma.
Memorial Services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 200 W. Orange St., Lititz, on Saturday, January 10, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. There will be a time of visitation with the family following the service. Contributions may be made in her memory to the Endowment Fund at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
