Paul C. Mumma, 80, of Des Moines, died peacefully of lung cancer Sunday, April 9, surrounded by his family, at Kavanagh Hospice House on Grand Avenue. Funeral services to be held at 1 PM on Wednesday at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel on Hickman Road in Des Moines with interment at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
Paul was born Oct. 11, 1925 in Russell, Iowa to Paul S. and Daisy (Sturgeon) Mumma. He graduated from North High School in Des Moines, and served honorably and courageously as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II.
He married Margaret Showers of Harcourt, Iowa on August 1, 1948. In 1962, they purchased The Quality Cleaners, which they operated as a team until 1993. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing. Recently, he has enjoyed reading.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of nearly 58 years, Margaret; his four children, Paulette Clemens (Des Moines), Peggy Thedford (Sherman, TX), Polly Mumma (Des Moines), Paul Mumma (St. Louis Park, MN); his five grandchildren, Christoffer Clemens (Des Moines), David Clemens (Des Moines), Aaron Thedford (Austin, TX), Leah Thedford (Plano, TX), and Zachery Thedford (Denton, TX); and, his sister, Evelyn Vaughn (Altoona, IA).
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Daisy and Paul, and his sisters, Doris and Kathleen.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 11 at Westover Funeral Home on Hickman Road. The family requests, that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice of Central Iowa.
