To his grandchildren, Zelvia was known as "Pappy" and he always went by the nickname of "Zig" which is the way he signed in name, however, this nickname was often pronounced and written by others as "Zeg".
Zig and Chloe were married in 1899 in Terre Haute, Indiana where their first two children were born. Zig primarily bought, sold and tended cattle. The 1900 census lists his occupation as a "drover". In 1909 the family moved to Peach Orchard, Arkansas. One son, Kenneth, was born in Arkansas in March of 1910, but the family returned to Terre Haute, Indiana and are recorded in the 1910 census recorded on 10 May 1910. The following year they followed Zig's sister, Kate Piety and her husband, Elijah, to Roberts, Montana where they homesteaded In 1904. Elijah T. Pitey homesteaded 160 acres in the land office of Boseman, MT under patent #1097. On 20 October, 1913, Zelvia Yeager obtained a patent #360657 for 40 acres of Carbon county, not far from Elijah Piety's property. They had entered the land on May 31, 1911 which was the south west quarter of the south-east quarter of Section 29, township 5 south, range 21 East, Montana Meridian. Patent #360657
In 1915, Zig sold the property and moved to Sheridan Wyoming to obtain work, They moved to Bellingham, Washington about 1918 where Zig and Ted registered for the WWI draft and are listed in 1920 census. They next moved Troy, Montana around 1921 where Zig's nephew, Clyde Yeager had moved. Next they moved to Riverside, California in 1923 and remained there until 1933 when they moved back to Roberts, Montana and stayed until 1936. Again they moved back to California and were living in San Bernardino, CA with their oldest son, Ted, where they were enumerated in the 1940 census. About 1945 they purchased a 10 acre ranch near Creston, Montana for $800 where they lived until his wife, Chloe, died in 1960. After her death, Zig left Montana and alternated living with his three living children until his death in 1965 in Riverside, CA.
