ESPICH, ARNOLD H., 98, died Thursday, January 24, 2008. He was born in Allen County, IN, and was a Louisville resident since 1946. Depending on the time in his life, he was called Bill, Dad, Big Bill, Arnold, Gompie, Arnie, and sometimes the General! Mr. Espich was a veteran of World War II, serving in Europe as a Construction Battalion Commander and retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel from the US Army Reserve. He was a licensed professional civil engineer and retired from the Louisville firm of Hazelet and Erdal. He was a long-time member of Second Presbyterian Church, serving as a church officer, volunteer, and choir member. He was also a member Owl Creek Country Club. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Lilah Mildred Mumma Espich of Adams County, IN; and is survived by his son, Bill Espich and wife, Jimmie of Newport News,VA; two granddaughters, Hillary Espich of Newport News, and Whitney Espich and her husband, John Picker of Cambridge, MA. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Edd and Reada Espich of Markle, IN, many first and second nieces and nephews and his beloved friend of the past twelve years, Mrs. Agnes Vogt of Louisville. Burial will be at the Hoverstock Cemetery in Zanesville, IN. Dr. David Meriwether will conduct a memorial service at Second Presbyterian Church in Louisville at 10 a.m., Tuesday, January 29, 2008, with family visitation following.
