Zackory Charles Muma,a ge 19, passed away Aug. 7 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
Funeral services will be Saturday , Aug. 17 at 10 a.m. at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron. A viewing will be Aug. 15 and 16 at Chamberlain Chapel.
Zackory Muma was born Dec. 28, 1993 in Lincoln to Lee C. Muma and Crystal R. Gibson. Their journey as a family led them from Lincoln to Sterling, Colo. and then to Chadron.
Zack attended East Ward Elementary and Chadron Middle School and graduated from Chadron High School in 2012. He began attending Chadron State College and was looking forward to the start of his sophomore year. He studied both art and geosciences. He was active in the art department and enjoyed working and helping out at the Student Center, specifically The Pit.
Early in life he learned the art of Shotokan and developed a passion for martial arts. He had a great interest in photography and spent many hours taking pictures of nature, people and anything that his camera could focus on. Zack loved creating drawings, paintings, computer graphics, sculptures and mixed media pieces. He loved the outdoors, hanging out with friends and family, listening to music and playing Magic: the Gathering, Minecraft and many other games. He was an innovator, creator and artist.
Zack?s Lakota Sioux heritage was central to his character and he was proud to be Native American.
Zack was a friend to everyone and had an incredibly kind heart. He was happiest when spending time with loved ones and was outstandingly loyal. He touched the lives of many people.
Zackory is survived by: his mother, Crystal Gibson of Charon; father Lee Muma and step-mother Kay Yauney of Chadron; step-siblings Brock Yauney and Jenae Wooldridge, both of Chadron; grandparents Keith Dean, Colorado Springs, Colo., Tom and Vanna Bannan of Chadron, Maurice ?Tony? and Bonnie Gibson, Rogers, Ark., Tom and Loretta Cook, Chadron, Darlene Eagle Louise and Genevieve Chase in Winter, Oglala, S.D., Beverly Corbine, Rapid City, S.D.; great grandmothers Lauraine ?Shorty? Moore, Olathe, Colo., Anna Gibson, Ashburn, Ga., Beatrice Weasel Bear, Slim Buttes, S.D.; great-uncle Van Bass Jr., Helena, Mont.; uncles Ty (Kara) Muma, Parker, Colo., Raymond (Valerie) Ferris, North Platte, William (Atsuko) Gibson, Seattle, Wash., and Miles (Amanda) Bannan, Chadron; aunts Jennifer (Greg) Morphis, Benton, Ark. , and Elizabeth (Michael) Kirbey, Chadron; numerous cousins; and his faithful feline companion Obbie.
He was preceded in death by: his grandmother, Rita Moore Dean, grandfather Charles Muma, great-grandparents Robert and Delora Bannan, Van Verner Bass Sr. and Dorothy Bass and Pete Gibson.
