He married Barbara H. Bard and fathered Barbara B. (b. 08/04/60 - married a Walton), Anna B. (b. 11/06/63 - married a Hilt), and Emma B. (b. 07/15/66 - married a Steiger). In 1860, he was a laborer living in Rapho Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and stood 5' 6" tall with black hair and brown eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service at Lancaster August 27, 1864, as a private with Co. K, 203rd Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company June 22, 1865.
He was killed from a terrible explosion of the boilers at the Cordilia Furnace
