Deceased Name: Gordon E. Mumaugh
INDIAN LAKE -- Gordon E. Mumaugh, 77, of Indian Lake, a lifelong resident of the Dowagiac area, died late Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 23, 1999, at Lee Memorial Hospital, Dowagiac.
He was born Sept. 7, 1922, in Dowagiac, to Carl W. and Belva Mumaugh. Gordon graduated from Dowagiac High School in 1940. He was a First Lieutenant in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II; and he attended Western Michigan University following his military service. Gordon married Marian Pauline Conklin on June 12, 1948, in Dowagiac. He was the owner and broker of Gordon Mumaugh Realty in Indian Lake. He also farmed the Conklin Sesquicentennial Farm at Indian Lake for over 50 years. Gordon was, in addition to his many other accomplishments, an avid golfer.
He is survived by a daughter, Vicary (Donald) Blackmond of Niles; a son John (Teri) Mumaugh of Indian Lake; and three grandchildren -- Jehan Blackmond, David Conklin Mumaugh, and Mari Blackmond, all at home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian Pauline (Conklin) Mumaugh, on Aug. 18, 1995; by his parents, Carl W. Sr. and Belva M. (Neff) Mumaugh; by two brothers -- Carl Mumaugh Jr., and Robert Mumaugh; and by a sister, Marjorie Cushing.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, at McLauchlin-Clark Funeral Home, Dowagiac, with the Rev. Virginia L. Heller officiating.
Friends may visit with the family from 2 p.m. until the time of the services. Cremation has taken place and there will be no viewing. Private burial of the cremated remains will take place in Riverside Cemetery, Dowagiac, at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or to Dowagiac Public Library.
