Obituary
Yvonne L. Edmunds
(Age 79)
Yvonne peacefully passed away on January 4, 2011. She had bravely battled many auto-immune diseases, but it was an infection from surgery that suddenly took her life.
Yvonne was born in Eugene, Oregon on November 19, 1931 to Ruby and Grant Eagy. She lived in several parts of Oregon until her family moved to Spokane just prior to beginning high school at Lewis and Clark. Throughout her schooling Yvonne was always at the top of her class. After graduation, she attended WSU for one year prior to marrying her first husband, Vernon Carter.
Her young married life was spent on a farm in Spangle, Washington. Two children, Dale Carter and Lisa (Carter) Greer were born. In 1959, they moved back to Spokane and life was busy with her young family. In 1964, she resumed her studies at EWU and was the outstanding graduate in the English department three years later. Yvonne then taught English and Humanities for North Central High School for 18 years. During her teaching career, she was very active in both the Spokane and Washington Education Associations. When Yvonne retired from teaching, she had a second career in real estate.
In 1970 during her teaching career, she was divorced. Six years later she met and soon married Allan C. (Ace) Edmunds, the love of her life. Together they purchased a secondary home on Hayden Lake where they enjoyed entertaining friends and relaxing with their blended family during summer reunions. After selling their cabin, the family reunions continued at Elkins on Priest Lake. Ace and Yvonne also enjoyed extensive travel to Europe, many cruises, and wonderful winter months in Hawaii. When life slowed with age, they moved to the Waterford Community where they met many new dear friends.
Just a few short months ago, Yvonne was heartbroken when Ace passed away after 34 years of marriage. Another loss earlier in her life was the tragic death of her son, Dale Allen Carter, in 1986.
Yvonne is survived by her sister, Sally Carpenter (Federal Way), children Lisa (Kim) Greer of Spokane, Sandy (Paul) Pattison of Oregon, Kathy (Tony) Napier of Tennessee, Chuck Edmunds of Vancouver, Washington, 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Mary and Dave Haugen, Molly and Jon Charbonneau, Luke Ankenman, Dr. Ward Chow, Dr. Howard Kenney, the Waterford Community, her Sacred Heart health care team, and Pastor Joe Bruce for the care and love they demonstrated during her life and final hours.
A celebration of Yvonne's life is planned for Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Waterford. (2929 S. Waterford Drive) In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Yvonne's memory to the Lupus Foundation of America, 800 5th Avenue, Suite 4100, Seattle, WA 98104.
Arrangements entrusted to Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, 1306 N. Monroe St. in Spokane.
