Virginia L. (Geltmacher) Maurer, 61, of 65 New Garden Avenue died Saturday at Community Hospital, Lancaster after a long illness. She was the wife of Marvin V. Maurer. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary last October. She was a 1957 graduate of Donegal High School and a graduate of the Philadelphia General Hospital School of X-Ray Technology. Mrs. Maurer was previously employed at St. Joseph Hospital, now Lancaster Regional Medical Center as an x-ray technician. She also taught special procedures at the St. Joseph Hospital School of X-Ray Technology. She was a member of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. She also had been a Cub Scout den mother and a McCaskey High School Band Parent. Mrs. Maurer was a member and historian of the Lancaster Spinners and Weaver's Guild. She was an avid spinner, knitter, flower gardener, baker, reader, and walker. Born in Mount Joy, she was the daughter of Harry Geltmacher and the late Mildred L. (Bitner) Geltmacher. In addition to her husband and father, she is survived by two daughters, Nicole M. Maurer and Jordana B. Maurer; both of Lancaster; one son Eric D. Maurer, Lancaster; and two brothers, Edward (Grace) Geltmacher, Marysville and Michael Geltmacher, Mount Joy. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 18, 2000 at 2 p.m at the Richard A. Sheetz Funeral Home, Lancaster with the Rev. Dana Schlegal officiating. Burial will be in Mount Joy Cemetery.
