Chester "Chet" Herrington, age 98, formerly of Walbridge, OH most recently of Pemberville, OH passed away on August 30, 2015, at Otterbein Portage Valley Senior Lifestyle Living, Pemberville, OH. He was born on November 2, 1916, in Walbridge to Consider "Sid" and Martha (Stormer) Herrington. On October 14, 1939, he married Verla M. Crago in Walbridge and she preceded him in death on October 30, 2006. In 1978 he retired from Standard Oil Company of Ohio, Oregon, OH as a Safety Director after 36 years of employment. Also for 25 years he was in charge of their Fire Protection and Safety Programs. His memberships included Lakewood Church of the Brethren, Millbury, OH where he was very active, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, church board chairman and chorister, Lake Twp. School Board, Chairman of the Ohio Safety Congress Petroleum Section and Past President of the Toledo Safety Engineers. He loved music, singing and soloed at many church services and weddings. He was a good man, loved people and was a devout Christian. Chet was very proud and honored to be named 2013 Grand Marshall of the Walbridge Centennial 4th of July Parade.
Chet is survived by his children, Richard (Sue) Herrington of Perrysburg, Carol Anne (Jim) Moomaw of Concord Twp., OH, Donald (Gloria) Herrington of St. Johns, MI; grandchildren, Douglas (Laurel) Herrington, David (Tracey) Herrington, Michael (Wendy K.) Moomaw, Scott (Wendy A.) Moomaw, Ann (David) Pulliam, Matthew Herrington and Katie (Coby Mizrahi) Herrington and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Verla; sisters, Dorothy and Viola and brothers, Fred and Horace.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, September 3, 2015, from 3-8 p.m. at the Marsh Funeral Home, 110 Main Street, Luckey, OH. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, September 4, 2015, at 11 a.m. from Lakewood Church of the Brethren, Millbury, OH where there will be additional visitation from 10 a.m. until time of services. Officiating will be Rev. Bill Holsopple. Interment will be in Lake Twp. Cemetery, Millbury, OH. A bereavement luncheon will be served at the church immediately following the cemetery committal services. Those giving a memorial contribution may wish to consider Lakewood Church of the Brethren or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
