Christian "Chris" K. Ludwig, 85, passed away Sept. 1, 2016, at St. Luke's Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 20, 1931, in Brighton, Wis., to Christian P. and Violetta Ludwig. Chris was a proud Airforce Veteran. Chris met the late Ella Jean Padgett while he was stationed in Georgia and they married on June 5, 1954. They moved back to his hometown of Kansasville to raise their six children. Chris was a Master Plumber and owner of Ludwig Plumbing and Heating. He was an active member of the Kansasville VFW and participated in their fundraising at the Racine County Fair. Chris was active in his community and was a former member of the Brighton School Board. He and Ella Jean were long-time members of St. Francis Xavier Church. He loved to go deer hunting in Augusta, WI, playing golf, and he enjoyed sing-alongs. Chris was known for making horseradish and sausage and helping his wife sell shish kabobs at the local fairs. Chris and Ella Jean were "snowbirds" and traveled every year to Bokeelia on Pine Island, Fla.
Chris is survived by his children, Penelope Janet Moomaw, Kathy (James) Kay, and Christian Keith Ludwig; grandchildren, Scott, Jr (Katie) Moomaw, Padgett Moomaw, Ryan Moomaw, Dusty (Sarah) Moomaw, Jennifer Davis, Travis (Kellie) Fonk, Dina Ludwig, and Richard (Maria) Ludwig; great-grandchildren, Aidan, Cameron, Scotty III, Conner, Cora, Caden, Jaxson, Richard, Justine, and Madison; nephew, James Morris; and his siblings, Joyce Dempsky, Eugene Ludwig and David Ludwig.
Chris was preceded in death by his wife and sons, Dennis Davis, John Ludwig, and Todd Ludwig; his parents, Christian and Violetta Ludwig; his wife's parents, Lonnie and Ivy Padgett; his brothers, Donald, Raymond, and Harold Ludwig; and Ella Jean's sisters, Ruth Padgett and Virginia Morris.
Celebration of Chris' life will be held at Miller-Reesman Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept. 8, from 3-7 pm. Memorial service will begin at 7 pm. Inurnment with full military honors will be held at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Friday, Sept. 9, at 1 p.m.
