William F. "Bill" Mumma Sr., 80, of Hagerstown, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at Coffman Nursing Home, Hagerstown. Born Oct. 7, 1922, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Donald C. and Mildred Munn Mumma. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth A. "Pat" Mumma, in 1990. He was a graduate of Hagerstown High School. He was a supervisor of the Technical Writing Department at Fairchild Aircraft from 1943 to 1972. In 1972, he became the regional manager for the Harry Kahn Technical Writing Firm, retiring in 1990. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church where he served on the board of Saint John's Shelter for the Homeless. He was a member and former secretary of the Hagerstown Downtown Rotary Club. He was a Paul Harris Fellow Award recipient. He was a member of Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion, The BIL Organization and Fountainhead Country Club. He is survived by his second wife, Kerby L. Mumma of Hagerstown; a son, William F. Mumma Jr. of Hagerstown; a step-daughter, Christine L. Burkhardt of Washington, D.C.; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Alice M. Matson, and a sister, Betsy M. Covell. Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, Hagerstown. The Rev. Scott P. Bellows will officiate. Burial will be private. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to William F. Mumma Memorial Fund, c/o St. John's Episcopal Church, 101 S. Prospect St., Hagerstown, MD 21740. Arrangements are by Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, North Potomac Street, Hagerstown.
