Information about Haywood Moomaw was found on his death certificate His brother, Eugene Moomaw, died a month later and is also buried in this cemetery. His cause of death was listed as "cold, exposure, and improper medication.". Also this was a time of "1918 influenza epidemic " which also killed his brother. His race is listed as "Colored".
I am very doubtful as to whether his surname was spelled as "Moomaw". His mother was most likely illiterate and the undertaker likely just wrote the name phonetically aa it was told to him by the boy's mother. The mother and father , Sarah and Charles Moomaw, were both listed as being born in South Carolina which is an area in which the Moomaw/Mumma families are not found. His mother and father can not be found in any other records in Virginia or South Carolina.
