Leda Dean Smith, 91, of Effingham, died at 3:00 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2008, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the Brummerstedt Funeral Home, Stewardson. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and one hour before service time Thursday. Burial will be in the Stewardson Cemetery. Condolences at www.lockartgreenfuneralhome.com.
She was born January 31, 1917, in Clarksville, TX., the daughter of Oliver and Merna Isley Moomaw. She married Robert H. Fletcher. She then married Kenneth Smith in 1961 in Stewardson and he preceded her in death in 1991.
She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Effingham. She was formerly active in the Stewardson PTA and Mothers Club, and as a volunteer at St. Anthony's Hospital in Effingham. She was formerly employed at the Greyhound Post House Restaurant and Kelley's Bowling Alley in Effingham. She loved arts and crafts and knitting, as she knitted newborn baby caps for St. Anthony's Hospital for many years.
Surviving are daughter, Bonnie Rentfro and husband, Leonard, of Saratoga Springs, UT.; son, Robert D. Fletcher of Tulsa, OK.; sisters: Madonna Elbert of Minneapolis, MN.; and Wanda Pfau of Fargo, ND.; five grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers: Olin and Lowell (Pode) Moomaw; sister, Regina Moomaw; and daughter-in-law, Lela Fletcher.
