Phyllis Gertrude (Moomaw) Sears embraced her Savior and reunited with her loving husband of almost 73 years, Harold Eugene Sears, on March 31, 2023, at the age of 96. She passed peacefully, surrounded by loving family.
Phyllis was born August 31, 1926, to Leon Austin Moomaw and Minnie Edith (Young) Moomaw in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Leon was a college professor, published author and proprietor of Moomaw Corner in Morrill County Nebraska, where Phyllis grew up. Both her parents and grandparents were Western Nebraska pioneers who settled previously uninhabited lands by filing "tree claims" with the federal government. While working as a secretary for the President of Manhattan Bible College after having graduated, she met the love of her life, and they were married on August 6, 1948. Phyllis and Harold had 2 children. Phyllis was well known in her church communities for her vocal talents, as a member of her church choirs and for her solo performances. She sewed lovely clothes for her family and created beautiful art for friends and family. When she wasn't busy baking, sewing, painting, singing, tending to her roses, or doing other arts and crafts, Phyllis loved her game shows on television, and playing Pitch, Pinochle, Skip-Bo, Rook and Dominoes with friends and family. Phyllis lived for her family, and no one ever went hungry with her cooking and baking. It wasn't Christmas without her famous "tea ring" for breakfast. Phyllis and Harold lived in many places including Lincoln, Nebraska and Topeka, Kansas, and wintering in the McAllen area in South Texas. They lived most recently in Keller, TX.
Phyllis is survived by daughter Nancy Pillot (husband Craig), son Kent Sears (wife Peggy), 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 3 siblings.
Phyllis filled our hearts with music and our homes with her art. She will remain with us forever as we sing in our souls and gaze at our walls.
A private graveside service will be held this summer where Phyllis and Harold will be joined together again for all eternity.
