In the 1850 census, Hocking Twp of Fairfield County,. a Joseph Mumaugh, age 40 is living in the household of another family. His likely son(?) Conrad is living a few doors away.

Conrad does not appear in the 1880 census, but his widow and youngest daughter do. From this, we can conclude that his death likely occurred between 1862, the birth of his daughter Jane, and 1877, the birth of Lizzie Steele, the oldest daughter of Sarah's from her marriage to a Mr. Steele. Possibly he died in the Civil War. It is uncertain whether Rebecca J. listed in the 1860 census and Jane Mumaw listed in the 1880 census are one in the same person. Likewise, Mr. Steele must have died between 1877 and 1880
