Frances Ritenour (1924 - 2015)
---------------------------------------
Frances Ritenour, born August 27, 1924, passed into her eternal home with God on May 7, 2015.
She was a single mom back in the day when it was not the norm to be a single, divorced woman with a young child. Mrs. Ritenour was born in Orkney Springs, Virginia and worked as a waitress in Washington DC. After her divorce she moved to Roanoke, Virginia with her young daughter and started working at Woolworth's where she was employed for over 18 years. She raised her daughter in a good Christian home with no support except her own work and God's grace. She left Woolworth's after raising her daughter and moved back to Orkney Springs to sacrificially take care of her elderly parents. She was a member of Morning Star Lutheran Church. She was a loving, supportive, helpful soul and she will be missed greatly by family and friends.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Byrd and Ida Virginia Hepner Moomaw of Orkney Springs, VA; two brothers, Medford Moomaw of Mt. Jackson and Stanley Moomaw of Edinburg; and one niece, Donna Moomaw Miller of Orkney Springs.
Surviving to cherish her memory is her daughter, Cynthia Ritenour McKinney and her husband Bill of Roanoke, VA; a granddaughter (a veteran of Iraq), Seyward McKinney of Salem, VA; a grandson, Abraham McKinney of Roanoke, VA; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by very special friends, Catherine Anderson and Betty Hepner.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Dellinger Funeral Home in Mt. Jackson. A celebration of Mrs. Ritenour's life will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Morning Star Lutheran Church in Mt Jackson, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Wayne Nesselrodt, Boyd Emswiler, Alvin Rinker, Gaylon Hepner, Brett Baker and Ron Moomaw.
Memorial contributions may be made to Morning Star Lutheran Church, 282 Morning Star Road, Mt. Jackson, VA 22842.
