Stanley Burdett Moomaw, 80, of Edinburg, passed away Friday, November 7, 2008 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg. The funeral will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock. Pastor Joe Fleming will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset View Memorial Gardens in Woodstock.
Mr. Moomaw was born May 25, 1928 in Orkney Springs, Va., son of the late Byrd and Ida Hepner Moomaw. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a retired sewing machine mechanic.
He is survived by his wife, Fleta Funkhouser Moomaw; son and daughter-in-law, Steven Burdett Moomaw and Darla Sue and granddaughter, Sarah Catherine Moomaw, all of Woodstock; sister, Frances Ritenour of Orkney Springs and brother, Medford Moomaw of Mt. Jackson. Although Stanley had one related granddaughter, the children of Darla's Daycare were like grandchildren to him and they affectionately called him "Granddaddy Stanley."
Pallbearers will be Randall Kennedy Jr., Douglas Stroop, Kurt George, John Pence, Carroll Wilkin and Phil Hottel.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 3-6 p.m. at the home of Steven Moomaw, 106 S. Lee Street, Woodstock.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pulmonary Fibrosis Association, 1332 N. Halsted St., Suite 201, Chicago, Illinois 60642-2642.
