Odon, Ind., Feb. 24. Curtis Mumaw, who was injured at Indian Springs
last Monday by the explosion of four kegs of powder and 35 sticks of
dynamite, died at that place this morning. He was terribly mangled by
the explosion and hopes for his recovery were never entertained. The
remains will be taken to Decatur, Ill., for interment.

Curtis Mumma, a former citizen of this county, was seriously hurt Tuesday morning in the railroad shops at Indiana Springs, Indiana, where he has been working for some time. The particulars of the accident are unknown, further than his being hurt by the explosion of dynamite and powder which was used in the shops for blasting purposes. L. F. Mumma, a brother of the injured man, and Howard Shackley, his father-in-law, left Tuesday for Indiana Springs, and a telegram from the former, received yesterday by friends here stated that the injured man was badly hurt, one leg being broken and he is still unconscious from the shock. His friends here are extremely anxious and have grave fears as to the outcome.

Spark From Anvil
Indian Springs, Ind., Feb. 25.---Details of the accident by which "Curt" Mumma will lose his life show that he was employed as a blacksmith by the railway company, and a few feet from his anvil was a quantity of dynamite and powder, the proximity of which he was in ignorance. A spark from his anvil caused an explosion, which tore the building to fragments and fatally injured Mumma.

Curtis Mumma, whose serious injuries received while at work in the railroad shops at Indian Springs, and mention of which was made last week, died Sunday morning after several days of terrible suffering. The remains were brought to this city Monday morning and the funeral services held Tuesday morning at ten o'clock from the Salem church in Root township. Curtis was thirty years old and leaves a wife and child, besides numerous other relatives and friends to mourn their sad loss. The accident which eventually caused death was rather a peculiar one. Curtis was working at the anvil when a piece of the metal upon which he was working flew and struck a can of dynamite. Instantly there was a terrible report and the building was badly demolished. When Curtis was rescued he was almost beyond help, his head being crushed, one leg broken and being otherwise injured. For a time friends believed he had a chance for recovery, but when the reaction from his wounds set in, it proved too much and death came Sunday.
