His life was summarized in the pastorial records of Henry Shaffner who was a pastor of the German Reformed Church in Columbia, PA. A copy of his pastoral records is available at the Lancaster County Historical Society in Lancaster, PA. The following entry in his record was transcribed for me by Roger P Minert:

"Phillip Mumma, the son of Phillip Mumma and his wife Maria, was born 25 June 1791. He was confirmed in Columbia by me. He lived six miles from Marietta on Castenberg Rd. He died 22 February 1820 at the age of 28 years, 7 months, and 22 days, after being out of his mind for several years. The funeral sermon was based on 2 Timothy 4:18."
