His life was summarized in the pastorial records of Henry Shaffner who was a pastor of the German Reformed Church in Columbia, PA. A copy of his pastoral records is available at the Lancaster County Historical Society in Lancaster, PA. The following entry in his record was transcribed for me by Roger P Minert.

Philip Mumma was born 22 September 1765, the son of Peter Mumma and his wife. He married Maria Petri in 1789 and they had six children and were married for 46 years. He died at Chestnut hill on 19 February 1836 at the age of 70 years, 5 months, and 8 days. He was a member of the Reformed Church. ..... an elder, and a faithful member.
The birth and death of his son, Phillip are also noted in the records of Rev. Henry B. Shaffner.
