June K. Mumma
June K. Mumma, 78, of Woodcrest Villa, Lancaster, went to be with her Lord Wednesday, August 26, at the York Select Specialty Hospital. Born July 9, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Eli L. and Mildred Kreider Mumma. Born in Lancaster, she lived most of her life in Landisville.
She graduated from East Hempfield High School in 1949 and from Millersville State Teachers College in 1953, with a degree in elementary education. After teaching at Marticville for two years, she went to Rohrerstown Elementary School in Hempfield School District where she taught second grade for the rest of her 38-year teaching career. She loved teaching and was an excellent teacher.
She was a member of Leacock Presbyterian Church in Paradise since she was a child. She was a member of local, state and national teaching associations and was a past president of the Hempfield District Teachers Association (HEA).
She has lived at Woodcrest Villa since 1996, where she participated in activities and served on resident committees. She loved growing things and had many beautiful plants both inside and outside her apartment. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed word puzzles.
She is survived by one brother, Joe Landis Mumma and his wife Joyce, of Landisville. She has two nephews. They are Joel M. Mumma (wife Diane), Lancaster, and Jeffrey S. Mumma (wife Holly), Marlton, New Jersey. Also, great nieces, Jennifer Chase and Julie Mumma, Marlton, New Jersey, and Katrina Johnstonbaugh, Canonsburg, PA. Also, great nephews Daniel Ryan, Matthew Ryan, and Walter Ryan.
The funeral service will be private and at the convenience of the family.
