Notes:
There is controversy surrounding Eliza Mumaw, the first child of John. Several problems exist. First, the marriage of John and Milly is record as 31 May 1866, long after Eliza's estimated birth to be about 1857, but she is clearly listed in their household in 1870. Possibly there is a recording error in the marriage year and it should have been 1856, not 1866.
The second problem is Eliza's parents are listed as Isaac and Pamelia on her marriage record to John W, Brown. In her second marriage, the name of "John" is listed as her father. This suggests a possible recording error of her father's name in the first marriage record. Another possibility could be that she did have different parents who died when she was young and she was raised in the household of John and Milly Mumaw. There are no known "Isaac Mumaw" associated or identified with this branch of the family. In the 1880 census, she and her husband, John Brown are living next door to John and Milly Mumaw, continuing to suggest a strong and close relationship. Because of this and without further evidence to the contrary, Eliza is listed as the 1st child of John & Milly Mumaw.
