Helen Virginia Rhoads, 98, formerly of Spokane, Wash., died at 8:40 a.m. July 27, 2012, at Miller's Merry Manor, Warsaw, where she resided.
She was born Jan. 28, 1914, in Arlington, Wash., to William Alexander and Belle Atkinson Muma. On May 24, 1942, in St. John, Wash., she married J. Calvin Rhoads, who passed away Feb. 16, 2005.
She was a wheat farmer's wife and she had also been a telephone operator in St. John. She also was a homemaker and caretaker of housing apartments in Spokane, Wash.
She graduated from St. John Washington High School, and also attended Los Angeles Pacific College where she studied liberal arts and music.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith (and spouse Ronald) Brown, Warsaw; a foster son, Daniel Norr, Loon Lake, Wash.; a granddaughter, Jennifer Norr Barrett, Spokane, Wash; three nieces: Helen Rhoads Wiley, Junction City, Ore.; Mary Ann Rhoads Kennedy, Bainbridge Island, Wash.; Sharon Rhoads Pratt, Cuba City, Wis. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Jana Fern Rhoads Trude, who passed in January 2005; a sister; and three brothers.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the New Hope Freewill Baptist Church, 3651 N. Detroit St., Warsaw, with the Rev. David Cripe officiating.
Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery. Calling is one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.
