Samuel S. Mumaw, age 61, passed away on Monday, August 25, at the VA Medical Center, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Samuel fought to the very end through all adversities. Samuel was born on December 10, 1952 in Hazleton, PA, son of Arthur J. and Thelma E. (Fox) Mumaw. Samuel graduated from Hazleton High School in 1970, and then earned a basketball scholarship to Kings College in Wilkes Barre, PA graduating in 1975. In 1980 he joined the United States Air Force rising to the rank of Colonel, retiring in 2005 after almost 25 years of service. Samuel is survived by his wife, Becky (Bowman), two sons, Joel and Sam Jr., two step-sons, Jason Cusick and Rick Cusick, three grandsons and many nieces, nephews and friends. Sam is also survived by brothers and sisters, Arthur J. Mumaw Jr. (Rita) of Livonia, MI, James A. Mumaw (Ruthann) of Ocala, FL, Robert D. Mumaw (Donna) of Sun City, AZ, Ruthann E. Perzel (George) of Rochester, NY and Barbara A. Beltrami of Drums, PA. The family has honored his wishes to be cremated with his final resting place in the National Cemetery, Indiantown Gap, PA. Samuel has also requested donations be made to either the Arthritis Foundation or Watermelon Mountain Ranch Animal Shelter.
