MOMMA, VALENTINE
He was born in Chicago Illinois, 7 April 1865, and died in Howard, Kansas , 22 Jan. 1942, age 76 years - 8 months -16 days.
He came to Kansas with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Momma. The family living a year in Neodasha, Kansas. In 1876, they moved to Longton, Kansas. In 1876, the family moved to Howard, Kansas, after Vol's father had been elected treasurer of Elk County and this has been the home of the deceased up until the time of his death. For the past four years he has been in poor health and spent most the time at his daughter's, Mrs. Olive Dickerson and family at Eureka, Kansas.
He was educated in the public school of Elk county and after school days helped his father at the stores in Longton and Howard and later engaged in business for himself in Howard and Latham, Kansas.
For a few years in the late eighties he worked for Asa Thompson and Sons on the Howard Courant, later conducting a bakery and restaurant in Howard. When the first mail delivery system was established in Howard, he was appointed carrier of Route No. 3, and served about 10 years. As a carrier he was very popular with patrons of the route and especially with all the children who loved him.
He was married 7 Dec. 1886, to Miss Luella Grant of Howard and two children were born of this marriage, Nicholas A. Momma of Fort Worth Texas and Mrs. Mary Dickerson of Boulder Colo. Three grandchildren, one great grandchild and two sisters, Mrs. Frances Harrington, Kansas City; Mrs. Minnie Baker, Kansas City.
Service at the Moon Funeral Home, Howard, Kansas conducted by Rev. E. H. Milton. Burial - Grace Lawn Cemetery, Howard, Kansas.
