John F. Mumaw, 76, passed away the morning of Thursday, July 26, 2018.
He was born in Akron, Ohio and was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Theresa Mumaw and his brother, Curtis Mumaw. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dianna; daughter, Kimberly Singleton; and his son, Sean Mumaw (Jamie). John and Dianna have five grandchildren, Ashley Butler (Jesse), Tyler Singleton, Zachary Mumaw, Kaitlin Mumaw, and Olivia Mumaw. They also have three great-grandchildren, Nora Butler, Oscar Butler and Ashton Mumaw. He is also survived by three brothers and one sister, Mark (Linda), Scott (Jill), Alfred, and Robin (Darrell) Sanders.
John retired early from Babcox & Wilcox of Barberton, then went on to work for the City of Akron and Akron Public Schools until he and Dianna moved to Georgia in 2006 to be near his aunt, Morvyth "Marty" Graham (now deceased), and cousin, Susan Walker (Gene) and their children Carla (Jeff) Herndon-Chockley, Alissa and Emma Herndon, Adam (Melissa) Raikes, Conor and Jackson Raikes, David Graham (Kelly) and Christian (Jade) and Liam, Jason Graham. John and Dianna loved the warm weather in Georgia and made many friends. His favorite pastime was going to auctions, yard sales, and thrift stores to "get the bargains!" He shared his opinion with everyone he met, whether they wanted to hear it or not. He had passionate views regarding just about everything!! He will be dearly missed by his family and friends in Ohio as well as Georgia.
At John's request, cremation has taken place and no other services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society in his memory.
