While I always hoped this day would never come, I always knew that it would. Where do I even start? How do you sum up a man's life in a few paragraphs? Truth is you don't... Dad was the second oldest of his 6 siblings He was born and raised in Akron, Ohio and went to Springfield High school. He was a crew chief in the US air force on C-130's from 1965-1969. After his service to the country dad got a job working in a factory in Barberton Ohio called Babcox and Wilcox or the B&W. He held many positions there over the years from working in the foundry to machining nuclear reactors for the US navy. He retired from B&W and then went on to become truck driver for a small machine shop in Clinton Ohio where he would make metal deliveries for other local machine shops in the Ohio area. After this he went and got a boiler operators license to become janitor for the Akron school board where he became a janitor for a grade school in Goodyear heights. He often said how he wished he would have become a janitor sooner as he loved being around the kids. He retired from the Akron school system. I guess where I'm going with this is he was always looking for ways to make himself better. And when he did this it always benefited the people around him.
Every person's life he touched he tried to make it better, any way he could. If you needed it and he had it it was yours. Period.
His small family started in the Akron/ Kenmore Ohio area where he and Linda raised my sister and I for a few years before moving to Canal Fulton Ohio this is where all of the stories really take off from. Lori and I both graduated from high school in Canal Fulton, met our spouses and started families of our own. He was proud of the 2 children he and mom had raised and always spoke highly of us and our decisions we made throughout life. But he was never any prouder than the days we made him a grandpa 6 times. I had two daughters Miranda and Megan and Lori had 4 children Hannah, Andrew, Matt and Luke. He loved his grandchildren so much. He would come visit at the beach and have stories for days of basketball, volleyball and football games that he had attended. And then he would go back to Ohio and tell stories of his beach times with my ladies whether it was at the Nascar theme park or the Outer banks. Nothing made him happier than being with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Linda Mumaw, son Mark Mumaw (wife Kristy, daughters, Miranda and Megan, great grand daughter Raelynn), and daughter Lori Earnest (husband Todd children,Hannah, Andrew, Matt, Luke, great grandson Kolton)
While sitting with him these past few days I have witnessed an outpouring of gratitude and thankfulness for all that he has done, from my family and friends, my sisters family and friends, both of our work families.
Per his wishes there will be no services held. In lieu of flowers please send donations to St. Judes Children's hospitals.
