Forest worked for the Allen County Treasurer's office at the courthouse in Lima, Ohio in the 1920's and 1930's. He also was the superintendent of the Village of Bluffton Municipal electric plant. He was a state licensed barber and for a time had a barber shop on Main Street in Bluffton, Ohio. He was a life time member of the Bluffton Church of Christ where he was an elder of the church.
