John E. Mumma, age 75, of Carlisle, passed away Monday, November 28, 2016. Born October 8, 1941 in Greencastle, PA, he was a son of the late Merrill D. and Lona D. (Brady) Mumma.
John holds an Engineering Degree from Bucknell University and currently is President and CEO of Carlisle Electric, Inc. He started his career as an electrical contractor, moving into management at Carlisle Electric. Under John's guidance, Carlisle Electric Inc. continued to grow and expand. He proceeded to add HVAC and plumbing divisions to the company, then went on to start the former American Solar Systems; Traffic Control Systems, Inc. and Terrain Control Specialists, this group was collectively known as the former CEMI Corporation.
John was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Carlisle where he served as an usher, lector and member of the RCIA Team. He was a US Navy veteran, having served with the Under-Water Demolition Team, which was the precursor to the Navy Seals.
John served on the Board of Directors of the Central PA Subcontractors Association (CPSA) and the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) where he held all elected positions except President. Since 1986, he has served on the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvanian's for Right to Work and was the recipient of their Ronald Wilson Reagan Award in 2013.
Surviving are his wife, Janice M. (Gayarski) Charette Mumma; two brothers C. Harold Mumma and wife June and Edgar M. Mumma and wife Sally all of Waynesboro; a sister Shirley M. Swisher and husband Richard of Greencastle; a nephew Andrew (Andy) Mumma; two nieces Cassandra (Cassie) VanCise and Bonnie K. Newcomer and a godson Alexander Joseph (AJ) Gerow. He was preceded in death by a nephew, C. Daniel Mumma.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 5, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 87 Marsh Drive, Carlisle, with The Very Rev. William C. Forrey as celebrant. There will be a viewing from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Malpezzi Funeral Home, 8 Market Plaza Way, Mechanicsburg. Burial will be in St. Patrick Church Cemetery.
