Mrs. Ruth E. Strait, 73, formerly of Mercersburg, died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, December 10, 1998 in Genesis Elder Care, Salisbury, [Wicomico Co.] MD. She had resided for the past three and a half years with her daughter, Linda G. (Mrs. Brian) Taylor of Stockton, MD. Born August 27, 1925 in Fort Loudon, she was a daughter of the late Simon and H. Grace Mumma Ryder. Early in life, she had worked for the Tuscarora School District as a cafeteria worker, as a school bus driver for the late Ralph Diehl and for Philip's Seeds, all of Mercersburg. She was a member of the Church of God of Chincoteague, VA. In addition to her daughter with whom she resides, she is survived by her husband, Harry H. Strait, Mercersburg, whom she married October 17, 1945; a daughter, Connie E. (Mrs. Richard) Blair of Greencastle; six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; three sisters: Janet (Mrs. Gordon) Willmert of St. Thomas; Dorothy Bryan and Betty (Mrs. Paul) Dorty, both of Cove Gap; two brothers: William Ryder and Charles Ryder, both of Mercersburg. She was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers. Funeral services were held Sunday, December 13 at 2:30 p.m. in Clayton Memorial Church of God, Mercersburg. Rev. Kelly Shope officiated. Burial was made in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg [Franklin Co, PA]. Memorial contributions may be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship of Franklin County, 45 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. The Lininger-Fries Funeral Home in Mercersburg, was in charge of arrangements."
