Notes:
There is no certain proof that Jesse is the eldest son of John Mumaw, but the circumstancial evidence is overwhelming. He and a Nathan Mumaw are enumerated as living very close to each other in the 1840 census. I am convinced that they were brothers. In the 1850, they are both listed as carpenters. From other records, Nathan's other brother, David, and their father was also a carpenter. The descendants of these two branches have used similar given names. If anyone has additional information about Jesse and his descendants, please contact me.
