PIONEER RESIDENT DEAD
Aged William D. Mumaw Answers the Final Roll Call
William D. Mumaw, aged 76 years, one of Hazleton's oldest residents, died at 11:30 Wednesday night at the family residence, 484 West Broad street, from paralysis, with which he was stricken twice before, but had fully recovered and was about the house as usual when he suffered the third stroke. He had been a sufferer from heart trouble for some time.
Mr. Mumaw was born in Conyngham and was married 49 years ago to Elizabeth Steinman, of that place since which time he was a resident of town. He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran church and served for some years as a deacon. One of his cherished hopes was to live to see the new edifice dedicated. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias, who will attend the funeral in a body. Mr. Mumaw was a citizen of sterling worth and character and his death will be mourned by a large circle of friends. Besides his wife he is survived by the following children: Mrs. Edward Maue, Mrs. William Walton, and Select Councilman Lewis Mumaw, all of this city; Mrs. Fred Elkins, of Weatherly, and J.W. Mumaw of Easton.
The funeral will take place Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Services will be conducted in the Trinity Lutheran church by Rev. Dr. John Wagner, followed by interment in the Vine street cemetery. The funeral service will be the first held in the new edifice.
A sad feature in connection with Mr. Mumaw's death is that his son, J. Frank Mumaw, died March 25, of phenmonia. He was still a young man.
He is listed in the 1850 census living a few doors away from his father, but in the household of John Warchter - Sugarloaf twp.
