Wade C. Shaffer, 91, of Boonsboro, MD, formerly of Maugansville, MD, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2020, at Meritus Medical Center.
Born on October 1, 1929 in Oakland, MD, he was the son of the late Harry C. and Bernice O. (Moomaw) Shaffer.
Wade served in the United States Army in World War II, stationed in Guam.
He was retired from Mack Trucks, where he worked as a machinist.
He attended Otterbein United Methodist Church for more than 50 years and was a member of the Contemporary Seekers Sunday School class.
He was a member of the Elks, American Legion Post 42, VFW Post 7234, and a long time member of the UAW Local 171.
In addition to his parents, Wade was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Thelma C. (Walter) Shaffer; two sisters, Eva Marie Hendershot and Catherine Elizabeth Merrill; and two brothers, Daryl Le Mark Shaffer, and Oliver Harry Shaffer.
Wade is survived by his daughter, Sheree S. Rummel and husband, Doug, of Hagerstown, MD; granddaughter, Amanda D. (Rummel) Prettyman and husband, Ted, of Rockville, MD; grandson, Matthew W. Rummel and wife, Karen, of Carvel Beach, MD; three great-grandchildren, Emily and Ryan Prettyman, and Mia Rummel; and a sister-in-law, Rosealice Shaffer of Oakland; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Wade had a very special friend for the past 11 years, Jean Engelmann. They enjoyed dancing, walking, going out to eat, playing games and visiting with family and friends.
Wade was an accomplished woodworker, building 15 clocks, two bedroom suites, many accent pieces of furniture and three houses.
One of his main goals in life was to keep active; and, he walked as much as he could every day.
Family was very important to him; and, he was so proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
There will be a brief viewing and graveside service, per Wade?s request, at the convenience of the family. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Elizabeth Jackson. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Otterbein United Methodist Church, 108 E. Franklin St., Hagerstown, MD 21740 or to St. Jude Children?s Hospital.
