NEWPORT NEWS - Eleanor Mae Sonon, 94, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003. She was a native of Carroll County, Md., and had been a Peninsula resident since 1972.
Mrs. Sonon was a piano and voice teacher, giving lessons from her home. She had taught music in Baltimore for 20 years, Mount Penn, Pa., for 20 years and in Newport News for 25 years. She was a member of the Peninsula Music Teachers Association, the Colony Home Demonstration Club and the Beechwood Garden Club. She was also a member of Denbigh Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two sons, David A. Sonon and his wife, Beverly A., and Peter M. Sonon and his wife, Susan P., all of Newport News; three grandchildren, Michael P. Sonon of York County, Molly S. Hughes and Rebecca J. Ferguson, all of Newport News; and one great-grandchild, Will Morrisette, also of Newport News. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert H. Sonon.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, in Denbigh Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Deborah Dalton Dail officiating. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
