Larry R. Leitzell, 69, of Waco, passed away at his residence, Friday, Aug. 7, 2009. A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Waco Memorial Funeral Home with Chaplain James Millsaps officiating. Burial will be at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, at the funeral home.
Larry was born in Harrisburg, Pa., to the late Damascus and Mary Catherine Mumma Leitzell. He served in the U.S. Army in the 1st Calvary and 2nd Armored Division in Korea and Ft. Hood, from 1958 until 1961. In 1983, he married Carol Wooten. He attended McLennan Community College earning an Associate Degree in Business. He worked for Montgomery Ward for 20 years as a department manager. Later he retired from the Texas Employment Commission with 17 years of service. Larry enjoyed playing golf, working in the yard and "puttering around" in his shop. He enjoyed running and competing in area 5K runs. He proudly displayed his collection of over 30 trophies and awards. He was a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Carol, of Waco; son, Keith Leitzell and wife, Sharon, of Round Rock; daughter, Michele Sears and husband, Bruce, of Rockwall, Texas; step-son, Clyde "Chip" Wooten, of Portland, Ore.; step-daughter, Melinda "Mindy" Wooten, of Hartford, Conn.; grandchildren, Brittany, Rachel, Matthew, Jacob and Kaitlyn; brothers, Roger Leitzell and wife, Lois, Mike Leitzell and wife, Kathy, Dave Leitzell and wife, Deb, Ken Leitzell and wife, Tammy, and Dennis Leitzell; sisters, Shirley Neidig and Nancy Hermann and husband, W.J., all of Harrisburg, Pa.; and many other family members and friends.
