Frederick J. Engell, 57, of 9421 Meadow Lane, Leawood, Kansas, an executive of the Kansas City Fire and Marine Co. was stricken ill at this office and was dead on arrival at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Mo., Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. A resident of Hazleton and Conyngham from 1947 to 1956, he was born in DuBois, a son of the late Hans and Christina (Kofed) Engell. He had resided in Glen Falls, N.Y., for some time before locating n Leawood, Kansas, in September. He was graduated from DuBois High School and the University of Pennsylvania. An Army veteran of World War Two, he was discharged in 1946 as a major in the OSS. He began his career with the Glen Falls Insurance Co. in 1946 and at the time of his death he was vice-president of the Glen Falls firm and secretary of the Kansas City Fire and Marine Co. H was also in charge of the western zone of the Glen Falls firm. While a local resident, he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, this city.
Surviving are his wife, the former Ruth Mumaw, a former Hazleton school teacher; two sons, John F., a freshman at Hamilton College, Clinton, N.Y.; James T., a sophomore at Shawnee Mission (Kansas) High School; two brothers and sisters: Julius, Erie; Harry, Drexel Hill; Mrs. Francis Forsyth, and Mrs. Thomas Carbough, DuBois.
Rev. Dr. Frederick C. Crane, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, will conduct services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Bachman and Rosenstock Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. Johns Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services. Mrs. Engell and her sons are staying with the former's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Snyder, 553 West Green street.
