"WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Edward A. Mumma, 54, of 345 Antietam Drive, died Saturday, April 12, 1997, at his home. Born July 17, 1942, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Helen Fisher Mumma of Hagerstown and the late Charles E. Mumma. He was a 1960 graduate of St. Maria Goretti High School, Hagerstown. While in high school, he played basketball, winning many awards and trophies. He also was a 1964 graduate of LaSalle College in Philadelphia with a degree in political science and prelaw. For the past 29 years, he was employed by Grove Worldwide, Shady Grove, Pa., as a traffic manager. He began there in 1968 to start the International Traffic Department. He was a member of St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, Waynesboro. He was a member of Hagerstown Traffic Company Association; National Defense Traffic Association; Maryland Fraternal Order of Police; and was a social member of William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695, Waynesboro. He helped with various sports programs in Franklin County, Pa., and at Waynesboro YMCA. He was interested in thoroughbred horse racing and NASCAR racing. He studied the family history of the Mumma farm in Sharpsburg. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Glenda Kay Whitlock Mumma, whom he married on Sept. 9, 1966; two sons, Eric Charles Mumma and Christopher Edward Mumma, both of Waynesboro; two brothers, Richard Mumma and Thomas Mumma, both of Hagerstown; one niece; and one nephew. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 12 N. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Thomas J. Hemler will be celebrant. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. The family will receive friends at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., where a wake service will be at 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Antietam Humane Society, 8513 Lyons Road, Waynesboro, Pa. 17268; or American Kidney Fund, P.O. Box 96507, Washington, D.C. 20077-7095."
